TEAM BUILDING COUNSELING IN FISHERS, INDIANA

Team Building Services

When a group of people come together to accomplish a common goal, a team is formed. Teams have the potential to attain peak performances when working well together.

There are many different types of teams—from athletic teams to business teams to musical bands. Some teams fall flat in reaching their goals, while others leave an outstanding impact on the world. Team building is a critical part of cohesion and team chemistry.

It can be hard to evaluate team dynamics from an internal view. Your vision can be blurred when you are part of the team. An outside perspective by a trained professional can help you navigate the team’s cohesiveness. At Cress Counseling & Consultation Services, we offer unique team building packages that fit the team’s needs. Specifically, we conduct an evaluation of group dynamics and provide advice on how to move forward.

What Makes a Team?

Teams come in many different shapes and sizes—sports teams, healthcare teams, business teams, education teams, music teams…

One element remains the same during the creation of a team: people from different backgrounds with different personalities come together to achieve a common goal. Whether or not that goal is achieved depends on many different factors, including team cohesiveness.

Cress Counseling & Consultation Services design team building packages that enhance team cohesiveness. From fun activities to help team members get to know each other to problem solving high conflict, we offer team building packages for teams in different dynamic stages. Each package is specifically designed to meet the team’s needs, which can last from one hour to a full day. Below is an inside look on what we take into consideration when designing team building packages.

Assessment of Team Dynamics

Assessment provides an opportunity to evaluate the process of the team’s current dynamics. A thorough interviewing protocol allows Cress Counseling & Consultation Services to appropriately assess the team dynamics.

Once we have an understanding of the current dynamic, we can develop a plan on how to move towards a different stage of team process. To help with this process, we categorize what the team is experiencing. Specifically, teams fall into 5 stages.

Sometimes teams move through stages quickly, other times teams can get stuck in a stage. One minor change can alter the entire team’s cohesiveness. By thoroughly evaluating the dynamics of the team, we create a foundation on how to move forward.

Team Building Activities

The right interactive and engaging activities can enhance a team’s cohesiveness.

Research (Hultin, Zhang, and Hu, 2017) has shown that team building is effective and the effectiveness depends on the quality of team building instead of the frequency. For true results, it’s not enough to book a fun activity and call it a productive day. With expert skills in analysis and facilitation, Cress Counseling & Consultation Services handpicks activities that fit your team’s needs and match your team’s stage of team process.

Activities can be completed in an indoor or outdoor space. If you have a space you’d like to use, we can come to you. If not, we are happy to accommodate your team. For packages that last more than 2 hours, we can arrange for food catering.  Activities are adapted to elicit behaviors that will enhance cohesiveness, including:

  • Communication
  • Trust
  • Problem Solving
  • Goal Setting
  • Collaboration
  • Reflection

Team Member Profiles

Another way to assess team dynamics is collecting data from each individual team member.

By breaking the team down into the individual parts, we can examine any discrepancies between individual needs and team needs. Profiles also allow us to gain insight into what motivates each individual. Data can be collected in a variety of ways, including: individual interviews, surveys, and questionnaires.

Many factors can be examined in team member profiles. Leadership style preferences, self-efficacy, and motivation styles are a few components that can be beneficial in getting the best out of team members. A combination of qualitative and quantitative data is a great way to get a well-rounded picture of what’s going on deep within the team dynamics. Once all the information has been collected, raw data is explained in a report with interpretation and concrete advice on how to enhance team cohesiveness.
